Xanga Fixes - Known Issues & Bugs
All of the site maintenance we've done recently (and some of the subsequent site funkiness) has stemmed from two big efforts that have been keeping us busy over here at Xanga HQ:
1) We've been massively upgrading the hardware that powers Xanga.
Some of the hardware was almost six years old - which is Methuselah-old for this type of stuff. The new stuff is faster and more reliable. It's also a lot smaller and more energy efficient - which means it costs Xanga (and the environment ) a lot less to run than the old hardware.
2) We've been upgrading the software that powers Xanga too
Along with replacing the hardware, we've also been overhauling the software architecture of Xanga. The ultimate goal, of course, is to help make things more reliable and maintainable. But this type of upgrade brings inevitable hiccups as well... Now we're focused on stamping out bugs! We know the recent changes have introduced some new bugs. And we know there are some long-standing bugs from the old system. With your help, we'd like to focus on fixing them!
- Known issues that we're currently working to fix:
- Anonymous footprints aren't showing the location of the visitor.
- Some emails aren't being delivered - particularly to yahoo and att.net, which includes bellsouth.net and other domains (this one is primarily because different ISPs are rate-limiting the amount of email we can send to them). Please let us know if you aren't receiving email.
- Usertag counts in the feedback log module are stuck at 0.
- Intermittent issues for which we need more information:
- We've seen some reports about specific Xanga sites not always rendering properly. It sounds like the css for the site isn't loading, which causes weird display issues.
- If you're having a problem like this, please leave a comment.
- Recently Fixed Issues (woohoo!):
- Comment reply emails weren't being sent.
- View counts were updating slowly.
- Footprint feedback counts were updating slowly.
Just wanted to let you all know what we're currently doing to fix up the site. If you've been having any other big problems with the site (old or new) please let us know in the comments and we'll add them into this effort.
Thanks so much. Posted 5/25/2009 at 2:53 PM - 136 eprops - 66 comments

Memorial Day
This is my first Memorial Day since I returned from Iraq. Yesterday 2-25 SBCT unveiled a memorial dedicated to the 18 men who have been killed in Iraq from this brigade. I personally knew three of them. I will never forget the names of SGT Jon Michael Schoolcraft, SGT John Kyle Daggett, and SGT Timothy Martin. During the ceremony, in my mind's eye, I kept imagining the three of them standing before me, together. Posted 5/25/2009 at 1:10 PM - add eprops - add comments
In a Moment, Everything Can Change
The amount of living we have gets shorter every single day, if you think about it. Every day that passes is one less day that could be spent doing something amazing. And, not only that it's changing at a really fast rate. Posted 5/25/2009 at 2:25 PM - add eprops - add comments
The Terror That is PMS
For approximately five days a month my mind goes AWOL. One of my coworkers calls it her "time of clarity", but you might as well call me "Ms. Sensitive". Make the wrong move around me and I will bite your head off. I would be watching something flaky like 90210 and the next thing I know it I feel like crying my eyes out for misunderstood Annie Wilson.

Please, for the love of God, tell me I am beautiful
Allow me to take a break between uncontrollable sobs to type this up for you. Allow me, please, to introduce a new me. The 'me' who is far from confident. The 'me' that wishes she can be anywhere else as anybody else. The 'me' that wants nothing more but to hear those three little words; "You are beautiful" Posted 5/25/2009 at 8:15 PM - add eprops - add comments

Failing In College Is About More Than Just Grades
Before going away to college, students always hear about the good times, the parties, girls, drinking, etc. What many college grads fail to tell you are the financial problems college students face while in school. Students forget that college is the first step in becoming a more financially stable person after graduation. Sometimes the financial problems lead to problems in the classrooms and failing grades, but that's not the only way to fail out of college.Posted 5/25/2009 at 9:15 PM - add eprops - add comments
