Sony suffers $1 bil annual loss

It was the Japanese consumer electronics and entertainment giant's first fiscal-year loss in 14 years, including $1.72 bil in Q4, though that was better than the company expected. Sony's (SNE) annual sales fell 12.9% to $78.8 bil. Sony continued to lose money in its games division, but TV prices held up better than expected. Sony said it will close 3 plants. It's already cutting 16,000 workers. It expects a $1.2 bil loss for the fiscal year through March 2010. Sony shares rose 1.6% to 26.26.
