Family Dollar Stores

With the indexes under selling pressure in recent days, watch out for stocks that may be showing sell signals after a breakout. Family Dollar Stores (FDO) It's been trading beneath its 10-week moving average for the past three weeks.

  • Earnings growth has been a bit erratic in recent quarters. Profit grew 33% most recently, but just 10% in the prior quarter.
  • Sales have grown at a single-digit rate. Ideally, you'd prefer to see year-over-year sales growth of at least 25%.
  • It�s from the Retail-Discount & Variety industry group, which is now ranked a somewhat lowly No. 147, among IBD's 197 groups.
  • The group's ranking has been slipping. It's down from No. 3 six months ago.
