Thanks for the update.  Hard to believe that our legal system is as slow as it is.

Hope you're doing good!  I'm swamped at work, and never manage to get caught up enough to feel like I'm making any headway!

Love you!

Barb

Wanted to forward John Saia's response to the last lawyer update.
He never did say exactly what they were going to use the information we gave them for.
Am sure they will probably not use some of the stories, but they will so get a kick out of reading them!
I will try to finish my part this weekend, and I will forward everything back to you.
That was a tough email memory to read at work. Myra

Myra,

Great to hear from you! And hope you're doing well................so, how's the Pantera? Saw several at the big "Fabulous Fords Forever" car show at Knott's Berry Farm about two weeks ago; made me think of you! Tell me you're drivin' it!

Thank you for the update on the case, too....this must feel not only dizzying, but excruciatingly slow and painful. Just some closure would be relief enough! I'm delighted, however, to see even a little progress.

Just so you know, we're doing Prius New Model over last week and this week....so we're rememberin' Darrel and his hybrid shenanigans when we launched the first Prius. Really good memories! Adam Crawford, our Toyota New Model guy, walked in from teaching Prius New Model at the end of the day yesterday and said, "Walked away from another one!", just like Darrel would always say at the end of a New Model day.

As for the 'stories', we'd love to learn more. Always! For the scholarship purposes, however, just a couple of paragraphs are sufficient to fill in the childhood gaps. Remember that this story about Darrel will be read by potential scholarship candidates who will have a short attention span. I'm thinking that on the scholarship application we'll ask the candidates to answer a question or two about how Darrel's life and career influenced their decision to seek a scholarship and perhaps how they can apply his career lessons to their personal career goals.

Any deadlines are rather soft, but if we can get this buttoned up by the end of June we can have the scholarship plan available to prospective students for the upcoming fall school year.

Best Regards,

        John

Another Update

Another update from the lawyer's office:

Two depositions will be held next week on the 19th:
Dr. Nagappan - the surgeon who took over for Takei for the last couple of weeks when Darrel was in the hospital after Takei went on vacation.
Dr. Saab - Darrel's original hematologist/oncologist - He is the doctor that was treating Darrel's blood problem for years and finally convinced Darrel that he should have the spleen removed so he could get off of the Prednisone. I didn't know that they had subpoenaed him.

And there will be more expert witness depositions in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

The summary judgement scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, has been taken off the calendar.
They got an "expert declaration" that the there was enough merit to go to trial.

That means that if there is not a settlement before June 16, we will go to trial.
If there is an older case that is ready to go to trial at that time, we could still be taken off the calendar as late as a week before. I have a feeling that, even if we would win the case, Takei was file an appeal and this could go on for a long time.

So we wait and see. Will keep you posted.

Darrel’s brother and sisters had a conference call and visited about stories of Darrel’s youth. I got a copy of those but want to add to them after we met and were married. Some of those stories even I had never heard before.  Is there a deadline when you need the information?
